Mass Effect working on the Oculus Rift

Mass Effect is a popular 3rd person Sci-Fi shooter from 2007 that happens to use DirectX 9. Meaning that it should be able to work with Vireio Perception. There seems to be a bit of lag in the right eye in the beginning but Vireio catches up and then we are running 30fps. The game is well designed and the gui looks like it was meant for the Oculus Rift.

Here is how to get Mass Effect working on the Oculus Rift.

  1. Run the game, make sure V-Sync is off then exit.
  2. Copy the Vireio Perception DLL’s to the Mass Effect directory
    These files:
    “d3d9.dll”
    “hijackdll.dll”
    “libfreespace.dll”
    go here:
    “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Mass Effect\Binaries”
  3. Add the line below to the Vireio Perception “profiles.xml” file
     <profile game_name="Mass Effect" game_exe="MassEffect.exe" game_type="601" separation="0.00357999" convergence="0" swap_eyes="false" yaw_multiplier="32.125" pitch_multiplier="25" roll_multiplier="1" />
  4. Run Vireio Perception
  5. Run the game

    Hi guys! I’ve done everything according to the instructions, BUT! Closed head tracker, 3D terribly buggy when turning the camera! During turns – 3D shows. When you stand on the spot – 3D is not. Be advised that some …

    You’ve heard about another driver for RIFT?
    STEREOIFICATOR! At this point, it is more stable than VIREIO.
    You can add support for Mass Effect in Stereoificator???
