Following her participation in Seatrade Cruise Global 2025, the world’s leading cruise industry convention held in Miami from April 8 to 11, Sinaloa’s Secretary of Tourism, Mireya Sosa Osuna, expressed her satisfaction with the results, as increasing cruise ship arrivals also boosts the local economy.
“We hope to receive 190 cruise ships at the port of Mazatlán by 2026, representing a 32.9 percent increase compared to 2025. This is incredible news for the port. We are very happy and excited, and we will be working closely with Mayor Estrella Palacios to ensure the safety and conditions for all our visitors, creating incredible experiences for the Mazatlán destination so they can return for vacations later, as we know that is the typical behavior of cruise passengers,” she stated.
Sosa Osuna emphasized that the objectives of participating in Seatrade Cruise Global 2025 were to strengthen the state’s presence in the international cruise market, establish strategic alliances with industry leaders, and promote Sinaloa’s tourist destinations, especially Mazatlán and Topolobampo, as attractive ports for cruises.

He noted that during his participation, the arrival at the port of Royal Caribbean’s Quantum-class cruise ship, one of the largest of the cruise line, was arranged.
“It’s the largest cruise ship that would enter the port of Mazatlán. Work has been underway, and now that we were at the convention, we followed up on this initiative. We invited the Port Captain of Mexico, who was very supportive, and we reached important agreements together with our great ally, Rear Admiral Mariel Ancona, and the entire ASIPONA team. First, we sent a letter to Royal Caribbean on behalf of the Port Captain. ASIPONA is also supporting us with a bathymetry study that will be conducted, and depending on these results, simulator tests will be conducted to see if this cruise ship will fit in the port. We know in advance that it is highly likely that it will, but it is one of Royal Caribbean’s requests, and if so, dredging will be carried out. All of these resources come from the federal level, managed by ASIPONA. We are working together to achieve the goal of bringing the Quantum to Mazatlán, and we are on the right track,” he explained.
Among other activities at Seatrade Cruise Global 2025 was her participation in discussions with global leaders and members of the Association of Tourism Secretaries of Mexico (ASETUR), focusing on strategies for the development of cruise tourism in the country.
She also participated in workshops with key representatives of the international cruise industry, such as Josh Weinstein, President, CEO, and Chief Climate Officer of Carnival Corporation; Vicky Rey, Vice President of Government Affairs for Carnival Corporation; and Russell Benford, Vice President of Government Relations for the Americas for Royal Caribbean Group, among others.
The state official highlighted the meeting she held with Michele Paige, CEO of the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), who shared with her how the cruise industry will join President Claudia Sheinbaum’s initiatives to generate shared well-being through tourism.
“In the coming years, 80 new cruise ships will be arriving in Mexico, where Mexicans will be employed as human resources, from hospitality staff to captains. Additionally, Mexican-made souvenirs and mementos will be sold on the cruise ships, and Mexican suppliers will also be available, including livestock, fishing, and agriculture, by purchasing all of these inputs in Mexico to generate shared well-being,” he emphasized.
In this way, and following Governor Rubén Rocha Moya’s mandate to make tourism an important driver of the state’s economy, the aim is to consolidate Sinaloa as a key destination on the cruise itinerary in the Mexican Pacific.
